Cassandra Monique Batie, known professionally as Andra Day, is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, and actress. Born on 30 December, 1984, in Edmonds, Washington, U.S., she grew up in Southeast San Diego, California. She gained widespread recognition for her unique blend of jazz, soul, and R&B, and for her breakout hit song "Rise Up." She also earned critical acclaim for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in the film "The United States vs. Billie Holiday." Andra Day was initially signed to Buskin Records and later secured a deal with Warner Bros. Records, through which she released her debut album, "Cheers to the Fall."
