Biography

About Mag44

Mag44 (born Magnus Mando) is a pioneering Zambian gospel hip-hop artist, songwriter, and elite music producer based in Lusaka. Widely considered one of the primary architects of Zambia's contemporary Christian urban music scene, his stage name originated from a childhood nickname, "Magnum44," which he later modified to symbolize a creative tool shooting out the message of faith. After navigating a period of profound personal loss at a young age, he underwent a spiritual turning point in 2006 that realigned his life's purpose toward music ministry, officially launching his professional career as a gospel rapper in 2009.

As a versatile visionary, Mag44 is celebrated both for his sharp, storytelling lyricism and his extensive behind-the-scenes work as a producer and entrepreneur. He is a prominent member of the influential Lota House music collective, part-owner of Radio Café recording studios, and co-founder of the record label Brave Only Music, which was established to develop rising talent. He has produced acclaimed, award-winning tracks for top-tier African gospel and mainstream artists such as Pompi, Abel Chungu Musuka, Israel, and Macky 2, famously beginning each studio session with a prayer. His own solo discography features highly successful studio albums including Brave Only, Bwana, Mr Mando, and The Way, solidly establishing his legacy as an inspirational force across Southern Africa.
