About Shirley Caesar
Shirley Ann Caesar-Williams, known professionally as Shirley Caesar, is a highly celebrated American gospel singer, songwriter, and pastor, often referred to as "The First Lady of Gospel Music." She was born on October 13, 1938, in Durham, North Carolina. Her career began at a young age, and she gained early recognition as a member of the gospel group The Caravans before embarking on a successful solo career. She is married to Bishop Harold I. Williams.
Caesar's music is known for its energetic style and sermon-like songs, blending traditional gospel with contemporary issues. Her genres include Gospel, Black Gospel, Contemporary Gospel, and even Christian hip hop in some of her work. Over her extensive career, she has released over 40 albums and has been associated with record labels such as Artemis Gospel and Light Records. She also has her own label, Shu-Bel Records.
