Biography
About Whitney Houston
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was a globally celebrated American singer, actress, and producer, often referred to as "The Voice." Born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A., she was a pioneer who broke down racial and gender barriers in the music industry.
Her genres included a high-powered fusion of Pop, R&B, Soul, and Gospel. Houston began singing in her church choir and was later discovered by Arista Records' founder, Clive Davis, who signed her at age 19. Her debut album, Whitney Houston (1985), became the best-selling debut album by a female artist in history at the time. Her rendition of "I Will Always Love You" from The Bodyguard soundtrack remains one of the best-selling singles of all time.
Whitney Houston was married to singer Bobby Brown from July 18, 1992, to 2007.
Throughout her career, she was primarily associated with Arista Records, with whom she signed one of the largest recording deals of all time in 2001. She sold over 220 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
